About Putnam Pride
Mission Statement
Putnam Pride is a grassroots organization dedicated to building a welcoming community for queer people of all ages to gather and celebrate in Putnam County. We strive to take an intersectional approach that spotlights the most marginalized groups and to use our platform as a vehicle for creating real change. We believe that Black Lives Matter and trans rights are human rights.
Statement on Israel/Palestine, Antisemitism and Anti-Palestine Rhetoric
We decry violence and oppression everywhere, including against the Jewish, Palestinian, Arab and Muslim communities in the face of current events. We denounce hatred toward and attempts to silence those who protest war and call for ceasefire. Pride was founded on protest and we stand with those calling for a permanent ceasefire by Israel and an end to U.S. complicity and war crimes against/ genocide of people in Gaza. We reject the villainization, mischaracterization, and unconstitutional arrests of student protesters. We call for the release of all hostages by Hamas and the recognition that Israel is threatening their lives as well. We vehemently reject antisemitism in all its forms; we vehemently reject all anti-Muslim/ anti-Arab and racist rhetoric. We must stand together to eradicate terrorism, including when waged by colonialist powers like the United States and Israel, and acknowledge the direct link between those being oppressed and silenced anywhere and the LGBTQIA+ community here.
